Para, speed and hang gliding from Hoven
Hoven is a regulated airfield in accordance with the Norwegian "Safety system for hang gliding, paragliding and speed gliding NHB-E". A valid hang gliding, paragliding or speed gliding license as well as accident and third party insurance is mandatory when flying in Norway. An information board prepared by Fjordane Luftsportsklubb in collaboration with the Norwegian Air Sports Federation can be found in the mountain station and in the landing area. Please note that hang gliders are too large to be transported by Loen Skylift.
START
Launchable directions on Hoven are E via S to W. The start for the directions E-S is on the east side of the cable car and is specially designed for air sports. A start area for directions S-V is located on the west side of the restaurant building, the start is demanding due to the shape of the terrain. If you are starting in the S-W direction, a starting area further up in the terrain is recommended. Follow the road 300-400 meters uphill from the top station, on the left side of the road there are some starts that are "kinder" and more convenient.
NOTE! On days with strong thermals, rotors will be created on the starting sites located at Hoven and it can be very turbulent, collapses must be expected with both PG and SPG.
IN THE AIR
Familiarize yourself with the location of the commuter rail cables. Keep a safe distance from wires, buildings and installations.
Exercise caution when landing from the top and have good clearance to the public. Landing on the roof of Hoven Restaurant and close to the installations or walkways where the "public" is traveling is not permitted.
Flying under the cables and near the cabins is not permitted.
Keep a safe distance from the via ferrata and the via ferrata bridge, flying under the bridge is not permitted. Do not disturb those climbing the via ferrata. Note the new Stigull, which is a ladder that is 40 meters long and goes 45 degrees upwards to the hammer above in Via Ferrata route 1 starting at about 790 m.a.s.l. on the west side of Gjølmunnebrua. It is marked with rough triangles to the west. See overview illustration here.
Typical for the area is a strong sunset breeze in the afternoon during the summer months. Check the wind direction on landing in good time while you have enough height to change direction for landing, conditions may have changed.
Base/wingsuit athletes have their "exit" on the mountain ledge under Hoven Restaurant with landing in the park by Hotel Loenfjord. Please be considerate when taking off and flying on the west side of the runway.

There is an established landing in Loen (see photo). Use the area marked "Landing".
Avoid low-level approaches over houses and main roads. Landing in gardens, parks and parking lots in the center of Loen and at the Loen Skylift is not permitted without obtaining special permission in advance.
During the growing season, it is important to avoid unnecessary dragging in the meadow, bring the equipment to the roadside for packing.
Cars can park in the marked area along the river, use the parking lot at Loen Skylift if needed.
A wind sausage is mounted on the landing area, also follow the flags/pennants in the area to identify changes in wind direction.
Camping is not permitted on the landing or in the parking area along the river. There are several campsites available in the vicinity.
