ABOUT THE WINERY
Bouchard Père & Fils was established in 1731 by brothers Michel and Joseph. The two started selling cloth and often traveled through Beaune. They fell in love with the lovely town in the heart of France's vineyards and decided to start a wholesale wine company.
When the state sold land that had been confiscated during the French Revolution, the Bouchard brothers saw their chance and first bought vineyards in Volnay. As business continued to improve, they bought the Château de Beaune in 1810. Descending into the cellar is like taking a trip back to the last century. Several thousand bottles from then until now are neatly arranged along the thick earth and brick walls. An eldorado for wine connoisseurs and wine lovers, a fantasy land for Burgundy lovers and a museum of wine.
Bouchard Père & Fils was bought by Joseph Henriot in the summer of 1995. He took over Bouchard's entire "kingdom" of cellars, wine and barrels. Since the purchase, he has spent a lot of energy and even more money on developing Bouchard into one of Burgundy's leading wine houses.
