Rakssetra

Rakssetra is idyllically situated like a postcard on the mountainside towards Årheimsfjellet and Hoven. This is a trip that has become very popular recently.

From time immemorial, a "seter" was a place where people brought their animals to graze in the summer. The buildings on a farmstead are usually called saddles, and they belong to the various farms in the village. The surrounding landscape is so beautiful because of the animals and pastoral farming, and we have the farmers to thank for that. Today, Rakssetra is used as a vacation spot for those who own the saddles there. It is therefore important to respect the fact that there are still people who live here for part of the year and use it as their cabins.

Trip to Rakssetra

The hike to Rakssetra starts from the top of Loen Skylift or at Oppheim. If you drive to Oppheim/Holme and park your car in the parking lot, you pay a parking fee. At the start, follow the construction road from/to Hoven before following a marked path that leads to Rakssetra. Here there is a panoramic view of Olden and Loen. Setra is located at about 540 meters above sea level. On the way to/from Rakssetra, you will find Oppheimsetra at 640 meters above sea level. The whole way you walk on a nice path or gravel road.
