This Sunday there will be a celebration of Olsok at Hoven. According to plan, there will be an Olsok service on the roof terrace. In case of bad weather, the service will be held inside Hoven Restaurant.
About Olsok
Olsok means - similar to Jonsok (Midsummer's Day, June 23, in memory of John the Baptist) - actually the eve of St. Olav's Day. Olav the Holy fell at Stiklestad on July 29, 1030, and thus Olsok was to be the evening of July 28 (and the night of July 29). But Olsok has since been used to refer to St. Olav's Day itself on July 29. The day is marked with an axe on the staff.
Before the Reformation, this was one of the most important saint's days in Norway, and because of Olav's special position in Norwegian history, it was preserved as a national holiday even after the Reformation. Since 1930, Olsok has been the official flag day in Norway. Olsok is celebrated with various large and small events around the country.
The service will be hosted by Henny Koppen.
We welcome you!
