Astronomers promise a beautiful spectacle when the longest total lunar eclipse of the century occurs on Friday. The total eclipse starts at 21:30 and lasts until 23:13. The moon is likely to turn a beautiful shade of red. The eclipse on Friday will be a particularly impressive sight, both because of its duration and because the moon is low above the horizon.

At Hoven the moon will probably appear between 22:20 and 22:45. This depends on the rock formations where the moon rises.

The next time such a long-lasting total lunar eclipse occurs is a full 105 years away. The chances of a red moon depend on atmospheric conditions.

On the eve of Friday's total eclipse, the planet Mars appears just below the moon, which many believe will be the big highlight. Read more here.

The Loen Skylift makes its final descent at 23:30 this evening, giving you the chance to see this lunar eclipse from 1011 meters above sea level.

NB: Last boarding in Loen at 22:00.
